Privacy Policy

Scope: This policy applies only to the English From Zero Android mobile application (package name: com.company.englishcourse), developed by Oleksii Klein as part of the Learn English Easily project. For the website, see the separate Website Privacy Policy.

English From Zero respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how information is collected, used, shared, and processed when you use the English From Zero mobile application.

English From Zero is designed to help users learn English through lessons, practice activities, and exercises. The app stores learning progress, lesson data, and app preferences locally on the user’s device.

1. Information We Collect

English From Zero stores certain information locally on your device to provide the core functionality of the app. This information may include:

• Selected lesson language and app preferences
• Learning progress and completed lessons
• App settings
• Locally saved educational data
• The last AI Speaking conversation, including submitted text, AI replies, corrections, practice progress and settings

The app does not upload your learning progress or AI Speaking conversation text to servers controlled by the developer. Third-party processing for advertising, optional speech recognition and model downloads is described below.

English From Zero uses Appodeal SDK and its advertising partners to display advertisements and support app monetization. Appodeal SDK and advertising partners may automatically collect and process certain information, including:

• IP address
• Advertising ID, including Apple IDFA or Google Advertising ID / Android Advertising ID, where available
• Device information, such as device model, operating system, device language, user-agent, and screen information
• Network information, such as connection type, mobile carrier, and related technical network data
• Ad interaction data, such as ad impressions, clicks, views, engagement, and ad performance information
• Approximate location derived from the IP address, where applicable
• Diagnostic and technical information used for security, fraud prevention, service improvement, and advertising operations

English From Zero does not request or collect precise GPS location from users unless a specific permission is requested and granted by the user. If precise location is not requested by the app, only approximate location derived from technical data such as IP address may be processed by advertising partners where applicable.

AI Speaking and Microphone Access

Voice input is optional. When you tap the microphone in AI Speaking, the app explains how voice input works and requests Android microphone permission if it has not already been granted. Microphone access is used to turn your spoken English answer into text. You can use keyboard input without granting this permission. You can cancel voice input, and capture is cancelled when you leave the app's foreground.

Speech recognition is provided by the Android speech recognition service installed on your device, which may be provided by Google or another provider. Depending on the service and your device settings, audio may be sent over the internet to that provider for transcription. Voice recognition is therefore not guaranteed to work entirely offline. The provider's processing, retention and deletion of this data are governed by its privacy policy and the controls it offers. If Google provides the service, see the Google Privacy Policy.

English From Zero does not save audio recordings or upload them to servers controlled by the developer. The app receives the recognized text and places it in an editable draft, so you can review or correct it before sending it to the AI conversation. AI replies are generated locally on your device. The app does not send conversation text to an external AI server or include it in advertising events.

The last AI Speaking conversation, progress and settings are kept in the app's private local storage, without cloud backup or synchronization with the website. You can delete the conversation and practice progress in AI Speaking settings. Downloaded models can be removed separately. Optional spoken playback of AI replies uses installed offline English text-to-speech voices.

2. How Information Is Used

Locally stored information is used only to provide and improve the core functionality of the application, including:

• Saving your learning progress
• Displaying lessons and exercises
• Remembering your preferences and settings
• Improving your learning experience inside the app
• Providing local AI Speaking conversation practice and saving its progress

Information collected by Appodeal SDK and advertising partners may be used for the following purposes:

• Displaying advertisements in the app
• Personalizing advertisements, where permitted by law and user consent
• Showing non-personalized advertisements when required by law, user settings, or when consent is not provided
• Measuring ad performance
• Preventing fraud, abuse, and invalid traffic
• Maintaining security
• Improving advertising services
• Complying with legal obligations

3. Third-Party Services and Data Sharing

English From Zero uses third-party services for advertising, optional speech recognition and AI model downloads.

The app uses:

• Appodeal SDK
• The installed Android speech recognition provider for optional voice input, as described in AI Speaking and Microphone Access
• Hugging Face for downloading AI model files after your confirmation; the download service receives technical request data, including your IP address, but the app does not send it conversation text or audio

Appodeal SDK and its advertising partners may collect, use, process, and share certain information for advertising, ad delivery, analytics, fraud prevention, security, and ad performance measurement.

The developer of English From Zero does not control the data processing practices of Appodeal or its advertising partners. Their processing of data is governed by their own privacy policies and data protection practices.

4. Advertising

English From Zero displays advertisements through Appodeal SDK. Advertisements may be personalized or non-personalized depending on your location, consent choices, device settings, platform settings, and applicable law.

Advertising partners may use identifiers such as the Advertising ID, IP address, device information, approximate location, and ad interaction data to provide, measure, personalize, and improve advertising services.

You may be able to limit ad tracking or reset your Advertising ID through your device settings.

5. User Consent

Where required by applicable law, including privacy laws in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and other regions, English From Zero may request your consent before processing certain data for personalized advertising or tracking purposes.

You may be able to manage or change your consent choices through privacy settings available inside the app, where applicable, or through your device privacy settings.

If consent is not provided where required, the app may show non-personalized advertisements instead of personalized advertisements.

For AI Speaking voice input, the app shows an explanation and obtains microphone permission before starting capture. You can revoke microphone permission at any time in Android Settings > Apps > English From Zero > Permissions > Microphone. Denying or revoking access does not prevent you from typing answers.

6. Data Storage

Learning progress, lesson preferences, app settings, and locally saved educational data are stored locally on your device and are not uploaded to servers controlled by the developer.

Data collected by Appodeal SDK and advertising partners is processed according to their own privacy policies, retention rules, and data protection practices.

Audio processed by the speech recognition provider is subject to that provider's storage and retention rules. The fact that English From Zero does not save audio recordings does not mean that the provider never retains data. Review the provider's privacy policy and available privacy controls for details.

7. Data Retention and Deletion

Since English From Zero stores learning data locally on your device, you can delete locally stored data at any time by:

• Using AI Speaking settings to delete the conversation and AI practice progress, or to remove downloaded models separately
• Clearing the app data in your device settings
• Uninstalling the application from your device

Deleting local AI Speaking history or uninstalling the app does not delete data that a speech recognition provider may have processed or retained. For access or deletion requests concerning that data, use the provider's privacy controls or contact the provider as described in its privacy policy.

8. Children’s Privacy

English From Zero is intended for a general audience and is not specifically directed to children under the age required by applicable law.

English From Zero does not knowingly collect personal information directly from children. However, advertising partners may process certain device and advertising-related information as described in this Privacy Policy.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe that a child has provided personal information through the app, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

9. Security

We take reasonable steps to protect information used by the app. Since learning progress and app preferences are stored locally on your device, you are also responsible for maintaining the security of your device.

Third-party services used in the app are responsible for protecting the data they process according to their own privacy and security practices.

10. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights related to your personal data, including the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to certain processing of your data.
